The movie Army Of lovers In The Holy Land, produced by Naama Pyritz and directed by Asaf Galay, tells the story of a Swedish pop group that enjoyed great popularity in the 1990s and was famous for its mix of disco, camp, and queer music along with its messages of sexual liberation. The film follows the decision by one of the group's members, Jean-Pierre Barda, to leave Sweden and immigrate to Israel under the Law of Return.
The judges of the Haifa International Film Festival said, that it was "refreshing and entertaining, and describes the move from the plastic world of stiletto heels and fake diamonds to the roughness of the Israeli reality and conservatism." They said the film "creates entertaining and absurd moments alongside an authentic emotional process of searching and belonging."
Army Of Lovers In The Holy Land is going to be, without a doubt, one of the peaks in the group's career. Twenty four years after their last studio album Glory, Glamour and Gold, and thirty years since their debut, Army Of Lovers are back with an unprecedented piece of art, they haven't tried before, which was brought to life by Asaf Galay and Naama Pyritz. The director managed to create a unique movie combining a deep insight view in their rise to fame with an intimate touching story of Jean-Pierre. For the first time ever, we hear a true story of the group shared by Jean-Pierre, Alexander, Dominika and even some interesting tidbits from Camilla Thulin, the costume designer and hidden member, and Fredrik Boklund, the video director.
A special congratulation and best wishes to his new life go to our dear Jean-Pierre!
